Mhaidthe, February 20, 2016 - The Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI), a program funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the United States Forest Service (USFS), and in collaboration with the Municipality of Mhaidthe organized an informative meeting aiming to strengthen El Mhaidthe community’s resilience to climate change. The meeting was attended by El Mhaidthe head of Municipality, mayor, and 25 members of the local community. The meeting started with a general introduction of the LRI project and a more specific introduction of the “Resilience to Climate Change” activities proposed to be implemented on the public land of El Mhaidthe that include between others, an environmental assessment of the current and future condition of soil erosion in the land as well as adaptation measures to be agreed on and implemented with the community participation. The introduction was followed by a discussion with the local community on the proposed process and her interest in working together on its implementation. Overall, the meeting was successful and the local community showed interest in pursuing this activity. The work will start in March and will continue till June 2018.
