Strategic Planning Training for Rashaya's Social and Environmental Corridor Planning Committee

Aanjar, July 16th, 2016 – A two-day training workshop on “Strategic Planning “was organized by the Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI), a program funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the United States Forest Service (USFS), and implemented by Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-org) for the Rachaiya Social and Environmental Corridor Planning Committee, on July 15-16, 2016.

This community training workshop was organized with the aim to support the Corridor Planning Committee (CPC) in the region of Rachaiya to set a ten-year action plan, prioritize interventions to become more attractive to donors, and prepare a capacity building plan tailored to their needs to improve their stewardship over the action plan set and to ultimately achieve the vision of long-term sustainable reforestation.

The training workshop was attended by the Rachaiya Social and Environmental Corridor Planning Committee members that represent 13 communities, namely, Rachaiya, Kfar Denis, Kawkaba Abou Aarab, Ain Aarab, Majdel Balhis, Mdoukha, Er Rafid, Bakka, Dahr Al Ahmar, Majdel Balhis, Bakka, Kherbet Rouha, El Bire. Two members from each community were selected to be part of this committee, one representing the municipal council and the other representing the civil society. This workshop also equipped the corridor planning committee with a set of skills and tools to be able to advocate collectively for their environmental needs more effectively and harmoniously.

The workshop will be followed by several coaching sessions to support the Corridor Planning Committee in validating and finalizing their ten-year action plan where they will be ready to address the private sector, national and international donors, reforestation NGOs, the Cooperative of Native Tree Producers of Lebanon, and other public and private reforestation stakeholders, in a national-level conference highlighting the uniqueness of their SEC, their long-term plan and goals, and seeking support to realize their plans.
